Type 2 diabetes explained part 1 (a beginner's guide)

Overview

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are approximately four times more likely than non-Indigenous Australians to have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Diabetes can be a big burden on individuals, families and health services if not managed well.

This module provides an overview of type 2 diabetes, important things to know and how we can all play our part in reducing the number of people with diabetes and reducing the impact of diabetes on our communities.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Know the different types of diabetes
  • Describe potential complications and why diabetes needs to be managed
  • Explain who is at higher risk of developing type 2 diabete
  • Identify signs and symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes
